Allowances for your workshop setup

How cuts are counted: Blade kerf is charged for each saw cut. A final piece matching the entire remaining length needs no extra cut when tail reserve is zero. Head trim is treated as a total material allowance, including its setup cut.

Frequently asked questions

Is this cutting calculator really free?

Yes. The browser calculator is free to use without creating an account. Input data is processed on your device.

Does it guarantee the mathematically optimal cutting plan?

No. It uses several heuristic packing strategies to find a practical plan. Some complex cutting stock problems have better solutions, and a feasible layout is not proof of global optimality.

Does the tool handle angled cuts or sheet metal nesting?

No. It handles one-dimensional straight lengths only. It does not model mitered angles, 2D sheet layouts, CNC instructions, or machine setup.

What does reusable offcut mean?

Any unused length on a used bar that reaches your minimum reusable offcut threshold is reported as a reusable remnant. Shorter leftovers are shown as scrap. The threshold is your choice, not a machine safety rule.

Can I save the cutting plan as PDF?

Yes. Use Print / PDF, then choose “Save as PDF” in your browser's print dialog. You can also export a CSV list.

Can I use inches?

Yes. Change units in Cutting settings. Existing numeric values are converted so the physical dimensions stay the same.
