Pipe cutting calculator for length planning
Pipe fabrication starts with material-specific stock and a list of finished sections. A 1D length calculator can help estimate whether purchased or available pipe will cover the job without manual trial and error.

Finished parts + cutting allowances + leftover = stock length
What this calculation covers
Use MetalCut for straight pipe sections of the same compatible nominal size, schedule and material. Keep each pipe specification in a separate job. It can help with parts needed before threading, welding or assembly, but those processes may require additional allowances.
This calculator does not compute pipe spool geometry, fittings, bevel cuts, weld gaps, bending or thread engagement. It is for straight length allocation only.
A real-number cut list example
Five 1,100 mm straight sections make 5,500 mm of finished pipe. If five 3 mm separation cuts are required, the combined kerf is 15 mm, leaving 485 mm on a 6,000 mm length.
Length balance: 5500 mm finished + 15 mm kerf + 485 mm leftover = 6000 mm stock.
This illustrative example assumes zero head trim and tail reserve. Always enter your actual machine allowances.
How to prepare a cutting plan
Use the correct pipe length
Enter usable material stock, not merely the nominal catalog quantity.
Plan the straight cut
List each required plain-length section and number of copies.
Review fabrication allowances
If threading, beveling or fitting preparation changes the required raw length, adjust the finished-length input accordingly.
Enter stock, parts and saw kerf in the free 1D MetalCut calculator.
Common questions
Does it calculate elbow and fitting quantities?
No. It only arranges one-dimensional straight lengths.
Can I mix pipe sizes?
The application cannot enforce different pipe sizes in one run; calculate each specification separately.
